Dell XPS 15 Review
I am going to review about one of the most popular laptop in the Indian Market Now a Days. It’s the Dell XPS 15.It comes in the mid ranged category i.e for the one’s who only need to do the essential stuffs and other’s called casual gamers. This laptop works for both.I own this laptop and it is a customized model.I purchased it from DELL’s official website.
The XPS 15 comes with an 15.6″(39.6) WLED screen. A bit heavy because the keyboard area is made up of aluminum. It has a 2nd generation Intel Core i5 processor of 2.30 Ghz with Turbo boost which over clocks it up to 2.90 GHz.
It boasts a 6GB DDR3 RAM of 1333 MHz and a 750GB HD of 7200RPM.It has a 2.0 Mega pixel Web camera with a High Definition Video Streaming with Skype and also supports H.264 encoding format.
It comes with 2 USB 3.0 Ports and 1 USB 2.0 cum e-sata port , 1 HDMI port. Unfortunately it doesn’t have a VGA port but it has a mini display port which can be connected to a ” Mini Display port – VGA Convertor ” cable to do the job.
It has a 6-cell primary battery with an 130W power adaptor which works for about more than 2 hours on Performance mode and more than 3 hours on power saver mode. It has a Special “Dell Battery Meter” which helps to save battery consumption.
It has Intel Advanced-N 6230 Wi-Fi adaptor which is quiet better than the previous model i.e 1030.It also comes with an Bluetooth 3.0.
It boasts with an Intel HD 3000 GPU and an Nvidia GT-540 2GB graphics card which is pretty good for casual gamers. It runs every latest game available in the market at nominal FPS.
Another feature of this laptop is that it has an Automatically switching Graphics Mechanism which switches the GPU depending on the task under process.
The sound of the laptop ,i must say, is great. It has 2.1 JBL speakers and sub-woofer does its job well but avoid playing the music at the full volume level because the sub-woofer starts to distort .The Realtek HD audio manager comes with many default presets and an Add on Waves Maxx Audio Enhancement system for enhanced music experience.
It has a backlit keyboard which is very helpful during night whenever there is power failure or may be some other reason.
The laptop has a stylish multimedia touch based keys. One is for Realtek HD audio manager, another one for Windows Mobility Centre and the third one is a Customizable key which can be used for certain functions like Switching off the Lid , Closing Active network , Toggling Presentation Mode etc .
It was bundled up with an HDMI cable, A Windows Seven Premium 64bit OS and a Driver CD.
The cost of laptop covers 1 year XPS service with 1 year Complete Cover that includes Damage protection.
There is also a Battery Indicator at the side of the battery which shows how much the battery is charged without having to turn on the laptop.
As I mentioned above, Dell has offered an option to the customers to customize the specifications of the laptop according to their own choice. The website offers the customization from Color to hardware that includes processor , ram , hard disk, screen resolution , GPU etc and from Cables to warranty period.
