Ice Cream Sandwich update for Sony Ericcson Live with Walkman
These are some screen shots from my Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman[WT 19i] which I updated to Android 4.0 [precisely version 4.0.4].
Now, I was a little skeptic about the update as my Walkman phone has 512 MB of RAM and 1Ghz of processor, I just updated the phone for the sake of trying out what the Sony people have made available for a mid range phone. I was seriously looking forward to a visit to a Sony service center in case I would have wanted a gingerbread rollback[officially]. That was before updating the phone.
Sony Ericsson had announced this update last year in September, but after updating the phone and having used it for two days, I can say, the update was worth the wait.
Now, it took me about 75 minutes to update over a 512Kbps connection.
After the update phone took about over 3 minutes to boot up. The startup logos have changed and a Walkman logo has been introduced, which gave a really nice feel to the phone.
Although, I was looking forward to update thinking they might have worked on the battery backup, but it is almost same as gingerbread.
The best part about the update is the phone’s performance has not been affected. It lagged once or twice right after the update but it has not lagged ever since I rebooted it once.
The look and feel is almost the same but icons have changed and so is the Camera App.
As for the Front Camera feature. Please check the last image. On your phone tap on the area I have marked (SCN AUTO), a menu should open and there will be an option for selecting the FRONT CAMERA.
A new Face Unlock feature has been added.
The Recent app list which opens up by keeping the home key pressed for long, has gone major re-design and looks far better than before.
The screen shot option has been removed from Power button menu. It took me a while to find out how to take screenshots but here is how, long press HOME KEY and DOWN VOLUME KEY together.
I will post a detailed review soon as I am still getting hold of the update. You can update your Live with Walkman by connecting your phone to PC companion for Windows or Sony Bridge for Mac.

I have updated my livewalkman to ICS 4.0. I have used my phone for 24hrs ever since but felt that the battery life has improved. My apps used to hang for while after making calls before but not anymore !!! A notable omission at first sight however is the events tab in calendar(probably merged somewhere else) The call log updation is worth mentioning with its feature to trace the number while dialing. I also felt that the walkman has been updated along with its volume control. So the hands on experience in 1 day gives a thumps up to ICS4.0 !!!

How is the performance of the camera? I have read in many places that HD recording is suffering from lag.
Also talks of lag in dialpad are also present in forums.
And please share any other negative points which you have encountered after using the phone for a long time after the update?
Vivek, the camera has not been lagging. Although yes, the dialpad is a little troublesome. It sometimes takes 2 to 3 seconds to load.

As for the Digital Compass, you can search in the play store. There are a lot of good apps around.
how i update my android ver plz tell me…..
Open settings on your phone> Then open About Phone option>Then there you will see the option for software update (open it)> There will be an option for check for update(click on that to begin your update).
Make sure you are connected to a WIFI or 3G connection till the update is finished.
Please tell me what country you are from….maybe the country you belong has not been provided with the update.
Hi gulzar, You need to connect your device to your PC, through a USB cable and the SONY PC companion(on Windows) will notify you if an update is available. You then have to follow the easy step by step on screen instructions. Over a 512Kbps connection it took me about 75 minutes to update my phone.

No it is not stupid. Second it is very easy, you just don’t happen to have right information my friend. i upgraded my live Walkman now its restarting continuously . It was working good with earlier 2.0 .

Please give exact problem. 2G is slow connection. You would never exceed 237kbps i.e. around 30KB/s.

You can order from here. Although it is only 1300mAh, but i think I could use extra 140mAh as the native battery supplied is only 1160 mAh even though a 1200 mAh battery was promised.
And in order to increase your battery life, install juice defender.

Contacts open up very slowly.switching from contacts -> phone-> groups and so.. in contacts, takes few seconds.Earlier its bit faster in ginger bread.

Yeah they do…..at first time they take a few seconds but the second time they open a bit early…..it’s great to have ICS on board with such limited hardware…..whereas Samsung is not even considering the devices with such hardware properties.
after i upgraded to ice update i get problem in the camera quality its like 3 mb or 2 and i cant fix it or just downgrade to ginger update

And as for the slow thing, well, there is a new build update available, please update your phone again.

I thought the screen shot feature was skipped on our devices in ICS update. But I came to know it is possible to take screen shots on our phone.
Its simple, just hold Volume down and power button simultaneously for about 2 seconds
Mine is 4.0.4 and am not able to take the screenshot by long pressing home and volume down key together…what to do.
Mine works. You have to press them together. Not pressing one key first and then the next key, press them together, if it still does not work get the phone to the nearest Sony center.
I am updating 2nd time my sony ericsson live with walkman androit 4.So is there any prob to do that?? plz tell….
As far as I get, I think what you are doing is updating again after you have shifted to Ice cream Sandwich, there is no problem doing that, in fact a few bug fixes have been released in this update so go for it.

1. Try re booting the phone.
2. Check if your phone is updated to the latest software. Sony Ericsson rolled out another update, a refined 4.0 with some bug fixes. If you have not yet updated to it, do so.
3. In case the problem persists, go to a Sony experience center near you.

Rebooting means restarting your phone. Turn it off, wait for 15 seconds, turn it back on again. You have updated to 4.0 but Sony released another minor update, it is still 4.0 but improved. Check for it as well.

Are you using 2G or 3G?
Is the problem there even when you use WiFi?

I suppose the problem is not with the phone but the slow internet connectivity that 2G has. Try running youtube with 3G, if it works it is the 2G issue. 2G speeds are really slow, you can’t really expect to stream a video on 2G and if it works on the Gingerbread and you were comfortable with it, maybe you should get it degraded then.

I bought sony lww recently and i got the update for it, its like some 4.0 beta… Is this the same update u people got… Actually I want to upgrade it but I am little bit scared of it. What if it really wont work out, i mean if there is any issues with the update. Can i get back to ginger bread?

There seems to be an issue with your particular device, I think you should check with the Sony Experience Store.

There are not many issues with the update and yes, it can be rolled back to gingerbread in case you don’t like it.

You need to go to a Sony Experience center. They will do the needful.
How was phone’s performance after the update, mainly the battery life? Today, I have to recharge every day and I’d like to update to Android 4.0, but I’m afraid the battery life becomes shorter still.
It does not improve a lot but yes, it improves by a bit. Upgrade is a thumbs up.

I have upgraded my Live with Walkman to ICS.The features and interface are quite better.
I am facing an issue related to the’Notification LED’.Its doesn’t blink for some apps/features like msgs,missed calls,etc. The issue I am facing ever since I upgraded the OS.

I have updated to the latest android version which is 4.0,but now my phone lags and my wifi is unstable,it disconnects by itself while my friend has no problem in his phone….
@kash, my update worked fine, but I would recommend you perform a hard reset of the phone. It should solve the problem.
After updating to ics the sound quality of the phone’s speaker has degraded. Any way to solve it.
Also how do i degrade to previous version.
If you want to rollback, going to a Sony Service center would be your best shot, unless you want to root your phone.

What is the android version are you using?
Also, it may be due to less internal memory, so you should un-install any un necessary apps.
hey hw about the sound quality of the phone after the update?
It is good, with xLoud in your phone, It is louder and clearer than most phones out there.
