How to Install Backtrack 5 KDE

Backtrack 5 is the Linux based Penetration testing distribution that is used by the security professionals.

All those who want to learn how to install Backtrack 5 KDE , then you are in right place because here i show you step-by-step instructions on how to install Backtrack.

 

STEP 1- When you start booting from Backtrack CD or ISO image first screen shown is like this. You just have to press Enter Key.

STEP 2- Select first option (Backtrack Text – Default Boot Text Mode) and press ENTER.

STEP3- Backtrack is loading now ! Wait.

Step4:- Now, Type – startx  to start the graphical  interface.

STEP 5-  Your next step is to click on the Install Backtrack Button and wait for the next step.

STEP 6- Install window is now in front of you. Click on Forward Button and wait for next step

STEP7- Click on Forward button for next window.

STEP8:- Set Keyboard layout according to your country. If you don’t select any option it will use USA as a default layout.

STEP9:- Select the option *Select specify particially manually* and click FORWARD Button.

STEP10- /dec/sda partition is there, now we have to create a new root directory.

For creating root directory right click on the /dev/sda and select *Add Option* and a window pops up (shown in pic below).

I have selected 16 GB harddisk in my Virtual Machine. For creating root directory i have given 10000 MB = 10GB space .

Mount Point is :   /  (also called root). Press OK and Click FORWARD.

 

 

Your root directory is created successfully!

STEP 11- Now create /boot directory. To creating boot directory right click on the *free space >select Add option* and then again a new window pop up as  shown below.

Give partion size for /boot directory  above 700 MB. Here all your booting files are stored.

And Give Mount Point as :  /boot

Press OK and Click Forward.

After last step this window shows you that your /boot directory is created.

STEP12-  Now follow same step to create swap. Select free space > right click>click Add>Window POP-up>

Partition Size :- Double the Ram means if I have 256 mb ram then you give 512 mb of ram or you can also take 500 mb .

Use as:- Select Swap area .

Mount Point : Leave Blank.

Click OK

Click Forward.

Now

/(root)

/boot(boot)

swap area

All partitions are created , Click Forward.

 

Files are copying to the Hard disk now ! Wait, it takes time to Finish.

Your Files are installed on your hard disk. Now, restart your PC.

STEP 13- To start Graphics Interface write : startx

And to enter as a root account write : root

and password : toor   and press enter.

 

Backtrack is now successfully installed.

    hey i installed backtrack suceessfully as ur suggestion. But when i opened my xp professional i didnt find my drives which contains my valuable data. It only displays c drive with less storage size. I dont want backtrack now. I want my datas back. Will u plz help me in this? Is there any way to get back my datas and drives? thanks.

      It seems when you installed backtrack 5 you accidentally deleted your NTFS partitions(i.e. Windows Partition).

      Solution
      Run your Backtrack live(using a live cd or a live USB) and goto Backtrack > Forensics > Forensic Carving Tools > scrounge-ntfs
      This application can help you to recover your NTFS partition which you deleted.
